The red carpet opening of the 3rd London Bengali Film Festival, attended by film makers, press and dignitaries will be taking place at the prestigious Barbican Centre Cinema Cinema. This ground-breaking film covers the full story of this legendary cloth, known us Muslin. Designed for international audiences, it takes the viewer on a breath-taking 2000-year-old journey; from the herbariums of the world, the rivers of Bengal where the plant (Gossypium Arboreum Var. Neglecta) grew, to the famous museums of Europe where the best examples of this fabric are stored. The film covers the story from the first foreigners to come to Bengal in search of its fine textiles, the establishment of empires and the opening of trade routes. The film is introduced by Saiful Islam (CEO-Drik / Bengal Muslin), who is also be leading the Q&A after the film. |
